Meet Taylor: A Day in the Life of Oliver Hospitality’s Social Media and Digital Marketing Coordinator
If you’ve ever found yourself scrolling through one of Oliver Hospitality’s properties’ social feeds and thought, "That looks like my next vacation," there's a good chance Taylor Rowell was behind it.
With every project he’s worked on in the last two years as the Social Media and Digital Marketing Coordinator, Taylor helps ensure Oliver Hospitality Management’s digital presence feels just as personal and bespoke as the real-life experience.
Read on to learn about him finding his calling, what his day-to-day on the job looks like, and how his creative energy supports the larger OHM’s vision for the brand — one post at a time!
From Casting Calls to Creative
Taylor graduated from Georgia State University in 2019 with a B.B.A in marketing. During his studies, he stretched his creative skills across many avenues through internships and jobs:
Casting and Production intern for Casting TaylorMade: Taylor spent his time continuously casting and coordinating more than 100 background actors for multiple network TV shows, helping him hone his skills to multitask through multiple large-scale, high-stakes projects. While he found working in the entertainment industry to be truly riveting, he ultimately craved more practical planning and stability for long-term growth.
Communications intern for The Bert Show (Q99.7): Here, he tracked cultural trends and participated in on-air segments. This role showed him the importance of tracking current events and the zeitgeist of today to form content that will resonate with the right audience.
“I definitely got to let my personality shine through multiple on-air segments; however, the 4:30 AM call time taught me that I am NOT a morning person.”
Shift Lead and Social Media Liaison for Parish (restaurant formerly on The Beltline): Taylor’s longest-running role — and perhaps the most formative — he worked his way up from the coffee counter to weekend brunch and private events that led to curating event social media content. The consistency allowed him to complete school assignments and case studies on the restaurant, too.
It’s also where he met Grace Mendez, now the General Manager of Hotel Clermont, who would later play a key role in connecting Taylor to the OHM team.
Taylor’s Curtain Call at Hotel Clermont
Hotel Clermont had always been on Taylor’s radar, as they were a direct client of one of his previous employers, Little Otter Skincare, a Georgia-based skincare company that produces sustainable balms and organic serums.
Taylor first started at Hotel Clermont as a Front Desk Agent through a connection with Grace Mendez, whom he met while working at Parish in college.
Making a Home at Oliver Hospitality’s Atlanta Boutique Motor Hotel
Taylor’s love for hosting was one of the reasons his path led him to this career. Knowing he wanted to work in a collaborative environment promoting a product he believed in, he always thought he’d end up in sales and never set any expectations on where he’d end up.
So, of course, it seemed only fitting that his position at Hotel Clermont allowed him to flex his creativity, hosting, and sales skills all in one.
The real moment he knew he was in the right place, though?
The Hotel Clermont rooftop Barbie Party.
“My resourcefulness, creativity, and finger on the pulse led to a semi-viral party that was picked up by multiple publications, without pitching.”
Hitting “Publish” on His Role for Oliver Hospitality
After a year at the front desk, he realized he had more to offer in supporting the company’s growth.
The entire team at Hotel Clermont campaigned on his behalf for his current position as Social Media and Digital Marketing Coordinator for the Oliver Hospitality brand.
Taylor loves that each of the OHM properties has their own unique characteristics and that his job gives him the opportunity to directly benefit and have an impact on those he represents.
“It is always nice to have my ideas not only heard, but executed successfully.”
What It’s Like to Be a Social Media & Digital Marketing Coordinator for Oliver Hospitality
Each day, Taylor meets with the marketing team for daily planning - but not before he has his fresh cup of ginger and lemon tea.
“I like that we meet daily because it assures we are all up to speed and gives us time to share and relate to one another.”
Taylor works closely under the leadership of OHM’s Creative Director, Jake; Marketing Director, Rocky; and Director of PR & Partnerships, Kaitlyn. As he puts it, his job is to take Jake’s graphics, Rocky’s direction, and Kaitlyn’s press hits and partnerships — and push it all into the digital ether.
On any given week, Taylor works on multiple tasks to improve the digital presence of the OHM brand, including:
Creating, scheduling, and publishing content for Hotel Clermont, its tenants and other OHM properties
Drafting landing pages for promotions and campaigns
Creating event listings for all major holidays and activations
Updating and managing third-party platforms, event listings, and scheduling tools
Leading the creation of digital welcome letters for guests
Collaborating with PR, creative, and brand teams
Launching OHM’s LinkedIn presence to highlight press and partnerships
Afternoons often include lunch with the sales team (usually Chick-fil-A across the street – Taylor jokes he’s probably a platinum-tier rewards member by now) before heading out for the day.
Since he lives in EST and the team is primarily on Central Time, he often works for another hour or so from home. As anyone in the industry knows, social media never stops, so Taylor also spends a few hours on evenings and during weekends to stay on top of things.
Behind The Screens: A Typical Week for Taylor
Since joining the team, Taylor’s work has helped bring more structure, consistency, implementation and scalability to OHM’s digital footprint. One of the biggest shifts came with the arrival of Rocky, who brought a proactive approach to the marketing team to help them implement new tools, both for the team and property guests.
A standout example: Taylor’s creation and rollout of digital welcome letters.
“It brings us into the 21st century and alleviates extraneous questions for our front desk teams.”
The team is currently in the process of migrating all OHM websites from Squarespace to WordPress, a move that will make things more cohesive and user-friendly for guests. Once complete, each property’s site will feel more streamlined, visually elevated, and easier to navigate, with everything from bookings to event details accessible in one central space. While the switch comes with a few technical hurdles, Taylor knows the end result will create a more seamless experience for every visitor.
“Of course, it is always exciting when we launch a new concept – Exciting to be laying the foundation for a new brand, yet daunting at the same time.”
Coming Next: Taylor’s Future in Social Media & A Social Life
Taylor is aiming to step into a Marketing Manager position at Oliver Hospitality in the near future. With hopes to delegate some social media and website updating tasks, he would put more effort into leading new projects and managing current ones, such as seeing the website migrations complete by the end of the year.
Raised in Peachtree City, GA, Taylor has spent the last decade in Atlanta, where he lives with his partner Kyle in Decatur. This June, they’ll celebrate eight years together, a milestone Taylor jokes is “unheard of for a gay couple.”
Outside of work, he’s also a fan of:
Chili’s date nights
RuPaul’s Drag Race
Cooking, making candles, and tending to his bird feeders
Follow him @chaitaylatte on Instagram or connect with him on LinkedIn.
If you're looking to immerse yourself in Atlanta’s nostalgic charm with a modern twist, book your stay at Hotel Clermont – and don’t be surprised if one of Taylor’s digital touches leads you there.
