Mountain Biking
Pope-Baldwin Bike Path (South Lake) – This paved, 3.4-mile trail runs parallel to Highway 89 and offers gorgeous views of the lake, meadows, and nearby mountains. It’s a flat, easy ride, making it great for families or those who just want to take in the scenery at a relaxed pace.
East Shore Trail (North Lake) – One of the most scenic new additions, this paved route links Incline Village to Sand Harbor on a 3.2-mile bike trail sporting lakefront views the entire way.
Hiking
Taylor Creek & Tallac Historic Site – A spot for both nature lovers and history buffs, The Tallac Historic Site, offers visitors both a glimpse into the past, as well as several easy trails that wind through the meadows, wetlands, and past the Pope and Baldwin Estates. Entry to the museum is free, though a $5 donation is strongly encouraged to help support preservation.
Tahoe East Shore Trail – The Tahoe East Shore Trail, stretching from Incline Village to Sand Harbor, is a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts. This 3-mile, paved trail offers stunning lakefront views and takes you over six unique bridges, each offering scenic overlooks and a chance to connect with Tahoe’s natural beauty.
Must-Do Family-Friendly Activities
You can’t come to Lake Tahoe without truly experiencing its natural culture. Not only is it an outdoor enthusiast’s dreamland, it’s also a family playground, with plenty of opportunities for a fun and relaxing day by the water. From sandy beaches to adventurous rafting trips, these activities are perfect for making memories with your crew:
Swimming
Kiva Beach - Located at the Southern part of Lake Tahoe and just minutes from the Tallac HIstoric Site, Kiva Beach is open Memorial Day Weekend through October. Bring your pup along to explore this dog-friendly, 200-yard shoreline.
Baldwin Beach – Perfect for families looking for a beach day, Baldwin Beach offers sandy shorelines with stunning mountain views. The younger crowd can enjoy wading, swimming, and paddle boarding in its clear and shallow waters. Pack the picnic basket or fire up the BBQ using the beach's facilities to make a full day out of your visit on this South Lake Tahoe beach.
North Tahoe Beach– If you’re on the north end, this 2.7 acre beach offers everything you need, from grassy areas, to restrooms and volleyball courts. It also has a picnic shelter available for rent that allows up to 90 people, with a large barbeque and running water.
Tubing & Rafting
Heavenly Ski Resort – Practically in SHI’s backyard and the most popular destination, this resort offers a unique tubing experience. Using a specially-designed tubing surface, you can glide down the 500ft-long hill - no snow or water needed!
Truckee River Rafting – While this is technically not on Lake Tahoe, it’s the perfect summertime adventure for the avid thrill-seeker or for the entire family)! Book a raft from June through Labor Day and cruise through a gentle Class I ripple, take in the incredible mountain views and enjoy a day on the water.
Stop for Lunch at These Local Favorites
Tahoe’s food scene doesn’t disappoint. The area has gained a reputation for its incredible variety of food, especially when it comes to Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine. Here are some must-try spots for your culinary exploration:
Toulouse - A tenant of one of Oliver Hospitality’s properties, Station House Inn, Toulouse is known for producing a high-end spin on New Orleans food using only local and sustainable ingredients. Try their creole mustard vinaigrette on their salad paired with one of their specialty cocktails off of their extensive menu.
